The TRUE Value of Connection In Business And Life (5 Takeaways!) - Part 2

I have been lucky enough to meet and talk to dozens of smart, ambitious, and talented women who are experts in their fields as a personal brand photographer.

This is just one of the many benefits of my job.

The photos we capture together help my clients build new client relationships and maintain customers, so talking about how to build those relationships beyond the photoshoot, naturally comes up.

From these conversations, I had a revelation about relationship building and business ownership in today's marketplace, if you want to be successful you need two things:

1) a true and meaningful connection with those that you serve.

2) a powerful team of people in your network, who are willing to support you on your journey.

I shared my direct experience that led me to this conclusion and what I did to help create more meaningful human connection for myself and others in this blog post.

As this post is a follow-up to and will cover the major takeaways and actions from the FEM-mastermind session I created with some amazing female entrepreneurs in the Philadelphia area, I recommend reading this one first to give you context.

But if you like to just skip to the end of the story (as I know some of us do!), feel free to move ahead, but just know there was some MAJOR thought and context to the takeaways and actions you will read below.

THE TOP 5 TAKEAWAYS FROM THE FEM-MASTERMIND FOR ENTREPRENEURS

1) Take inspired action - Your genius, muse, whatever you want to call it, likes to show up in random times and places, not always when you expect it. Allow yourself to lean into those moments. Mariah Carey got the inspiration for the song HERO in the bathroom. So she took the time to write out the lyrics on the loo, then went on back to her life. That’s what inspired action is all about.

2) We are all learning something new all the time, give yourself grace when you come across something you do not know.

3) Unpopular opinion - You do not have to show up on every social media platform. Tiktok is great, but maybe it's not meant for your audience. Only half of the attendees were using the TikTok platform for business purposes.

4) Yes, you are the expert - and your thoughts about your expertise matter - Just because you may follow a lot of other meditation coaches, interior designers, photographers or (insert your speciality here), doesn't mean your audience does too. Also, you are the only one like YOU in your field, so the way you share the information will resonate differently with your audience than the way someone else shares it.

5) Your energy matters - how you feel as you are tackling a task matters just as much as the task itself. For example: I bet you can recall a negative customer service experience from your past - when you were served by a person who clearly hated their job. Or to the contrary, you probably remember when you had an amazing experience because the person was so lovely to work with you just couldn’t help but feel the good as you recalled the experience later. Watch your energy and how you approach a situation. Other people can feel it too.

ACTION - If you aren’t sure what I mean, here’s how to start - Notice how it feels to do the "thing" you are doing to promote your business like;

attending a networking event,

sharing on a social media platform,

the time of day or number of days you are working,

if it doesn't feel good, do what you need to to shift your energy towards it.

When promoting your business, investing your energy in something you are uniquely skilled at, like copywriting vs. a networking event is a better use of your time! Again, play into your strengths!

I am so grateful to the women who took time out of their schedules to attend this event. Not only did they show up, but they all opened up to each other and gave each other space to share in such a beautiful way. I was buzzing with positive energy for weeks later.

If you takeway one thing, let it be this - Building positive relationships is essential for any business. Without the support and cooperation of others, it can be difficult to succeed. Relationships can be built through engaging in mutually beneficial activities, such as collaborating on projects or sharing ideas but also through heartfelt connection and empathy.
